A Journey from Music to Movies.

Because Ashishma was born in a musical family, he is a part of the Arts. Her dad Mana Raj Nakarmi is a tabla player and composer. He helped her shaped her own career in the arts.

Ashishma entered Newar cinema industry through a movie called Nyalla Bya. Her dynamic screen presence attracted the notice of the Nepali mainstream cinema. Then she made a bold move to Nepali films and soon became popular among top filmmakers as a popular actress with her roles in Antaraal, Raghav, Adhakatti. Her portrayal in Adhakatti was significant as she achieved the Best Supporting Actress honour at the 8th Dcine Awards. She is more than able; with every job she is proving she is more than just a pretty face.

Besides acting, she’s also into music.

Besides being an exceptional actress, Ashishma is also a brilliant sitar player. She began her sitar lessons when she was just 13 and has earned a junior diploma in the instrument. With a musical past, Ashishma is a professional sitar player who plays the sitar.

She generally works musically with her father so that demonstrates her artistic streak is not just acting alone. It is quite inspiring how she balances music and acting.

Q. They commenced their career in the Newar film sector. How different was it from mainstream Nepali cinema?

A. I found both lovely although my work like different in both professional sector. I got my first time acting experience from newar films. I learnt a lot from working there. But, there is a more appealing, much wider and more intense storytelling in Nepali cinema.

Q. Did you come from a family of musicians? Has that influenced your acting in any way?

A. Definitely! Music helps in getting the rhythm and emotions and expressions for acting. I also use my instinctive knowledge of music in acting to understand the composition of a scene to act accordingly.

Q. If you could be in a film, what film would you pick?

A. It would be great to play a strong empowering character a warrior princess or some historical character who can give me a challenge.

Q.What are the best moments you’ve had in your career till now?

A. Winning the best supporting actress award for Adhakatti made me feel extra special in life. It validated all my hard work.

Q. Do you have a message for your fans?

A. Thank you all for the love and support, keep believing in yourself, follow your passion and do not forget to support Nepali cinema!”.
